(Adds analysts' comments on need for changing pricing policy to attract buyers) BEIJING (Dow Jones)--China's plan to sell more soybeans from its reserves next week may fail again if the government keeps the base price at which it starts the auction higher than those prevailing in the market, analysts said Friday. The government will sell 500,000 metric tons of soybeans and 2 million tons of corn in major producing areas in the northeast, same as what it offered this week, said an official statement on China National Grain and Oils Information Center's Web site. The government this week sold 745,900 tons of corn, or 37% of the 2 million tons it offered. It failed to sell any of the 500,000 tons of soybeans because rates were higher than those prevailing in the market. Traders and analysts expected the base prices for the auction to remain at this week's level of CNY1,550/ton for corn and CNY3,750/ton for soybeans. Corn sales were low because of ongoing weak demand, analysts said. "If they don't change their policy, they will fail to sell (the soybeans) again," said Duan Yujie, a manager with Changjiang Futures. There are expectations in the market of the government giving subsidies to soybean processing plants to help ensure that it is able to release stocks from its reserves at such high prices. -Zheng Xiaolu contributed to this story, Dow Jones Newswires; 8610 6588-5848; tracy.zheng@dowjones.com
