LONDON (Dow Jones)--The U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization expects world grain prices to trade in line with their average prices over the past 10 years, Alexander Sarris, director of the FAO's trade and markets division, told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday. Speaking on the sidelines of the agri invest conference in london, Sarris said FAO grain price projections for the coming 10 years have been revised down from previous forecasts due to the economic downturn. "Agricultural commodities are not going to lead us out of a recession but they are going to be more resilient" than other markets, said Sarris. "The (demand) growth rate is going to slow down but that doesn't mean it's going to turn negative." However, prices are likely to face more instability because of the factors that determine volatility, including oil prices and exchange rates, becoming increasingly variable and unpredictable, said Sarris.
