KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--Crude palm oil prices in Malaysia's cash market
Monday rose to their highest levels so far in 2009, with sellers offering
prompt shipments at MYR2,200 a metric ton, on expectations that China may buy
more cargoes due to a strike by soybean growers in Argentina.
Traders said CPO isn't easily available at short notice and even refiners are
facing a dearth of supply, pushing up its premium to both forward shipments and
futures prices.
April CPO futures on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives midday quoted at
MYR2,120/ton.
Malaysia's palm oil stocks hit a 14-month low of 1.56 million tons in
February. Stocks were last estimated lower than this in end-December 2007, at
1.40 million tons.
