2220 GMT [Dow Jones] Australia's ASX May milling wheat futures contract likely to recover today after settling yesterday A$5.50 lower at A$286.00/metric ton. ASX wheat likely to take strong positive lead from U.S., where short-covering, technical buying pulled wheat sharply higher overnight as traders continued to watch weather forecasts in dry areas of the Plains. Chicago Board of Trade May wheat jumped 26 cents or 5.0% to US$5.4425/bushel. "I think this is short-lived, but it's certainly more of a surge than I thought we'd see," said Rich Feltes, senior vice president of research for MF Global said of U.S. gains. AUD likely to weigh on ASX wheat: it's US$0.6592, near upper end of past week's trading range. (RCB) Contact us in Singapore. 65 64154 140; MarketTalk@dowjones.com
