CHICAGO (Dow Jones)--Private analytical firm Informa Economics on Friday
pegged 2009 corn plantings at 81.4 million acres and soybean plantings at 81.5
million acres, according to traders.
The crops will be planted in the spring.
Informa see all wheat plantings at 59.7 million acres and other spring wheat
plantings at 14.077 million acres, traders said.
Traders viewed the numbers as bullish for corn and bearish for beans. Corn
numbers were already factored into the market, a trader said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will release its prospective plantings
report March 31 at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
In January, Informa estimated 2009 U.S. soybean plantings at 80.8 million
acres and corn acres at 82.7 million, according to traders.
In 2008, farmers planted 86 million corn acres, 75.7 million soybean acres
and 63.1 million wheat acres. Other spring wheat was 63.1 million acres in
2008.
