KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--Argentina's 2009 soybean production will likely
fall to 42.5 million metric tons from 46.2 million in 2008, Thomas Mielke,
editor-in-chief of Hamburg-based Oil World, said Thursday.
South American soybean production this year will likely be 106 million tons,
down from 115 million tons last year and off earlier expectations of 118
million tons, Mielke said in a pre-recorded speech broadcast at a vegetable
oils conference. Brazil's output will likely be 57 million tons, he added.
The shortfall due to drought in Argentina will be partly offset by carryover
inventories from last year, he said.
