* Palm oil falls for 2nd consecutive session after rally
* Stronger ringgit on Malaysian trade data hurts
- Malaysian palm oil futuresfell on Wednesday for a second consecutive trading session on a
strengthening ringgit and after its rally last month shifted
demand to Indonesia.
The benchmark December contract on the Bursa
Malaysia Derivatives exchange was down 1.39 percent at 2,339
ringgit ($544.33) a tonne at the midday break. It had reached a
near 15-month high of 2,444 ringgit on Tuesday.
"The market is falling due to the stronger ringgit today,"
said a Kuala Lumpur-based trader with a foreign commodities
brokerage.
"Also, without any significant rally in the soy oil market,
traders are taking the opportunity to take profit."
Traded volume stood at 17,631 lots of 25 tonnes each, above
the average 13,500 lots usually traded by the end of the morning
session.
The ringgit gained over 2 percent against the dollar on
Wednesday after the release of stronger-than-expected trade and
export data, reaching an intraday high of 4.2850 at midday. It's
emerging Asia's worst performing currency so far after losing
about 20 percent this year.
A weakening ringgit, the currency palm oil is traded in,
usually lends support to palm prices.
On the technical front, palm oil looks neutral in a range of
2,349-2,464 ringgit per tonne and an escape will point a
direction, said Reuters market analyst for commodities and
energy technicals Wang Tao.
In competing vegetable oil markets, U.S. December soyoil
contract fell slightly by 0.1 percent in early Asian
trade.
