--- **January delivery Illinois grains- Prices were lower this week at the Board of Trade. Good growing conditions and beneficial rainfall kept pressure on grain prices. While the crop is behind in the maturity category it is doing well in other areas. Good growing conditions were putting pressure on grain prices, but China's buying spree continues to counteract the favorable weather and add support to the grain markets. The USDA announced sales of US soybeans to China for four days in a row this week. This week's Illinois Weather and Crops report for August 16, showed very little change in crop conditions for the Illinois corn and soybeans. There was 62% of the states corn crop in the Good to Excellent range, with 28% Fair and 10% in Poor to Very Poor condition. Many farmers are hoping for a very late frost this year, as the crop continues to lag behind in maturity. There was 6% of the Illinois corn crop in the dent stage, compared to 11% last year and the five year average of 40%. The Illinois soybean crop improved slightly with 60% in the Good to Excellent range, with 31% Fair and 9% in Poor to Very Poor condition. There has been 58% of the crop setting pods, compared to 68% last year and the five year average of 87%. In the cash markets, trading activity was slow this week. Lower markets and weak basis levels made for a very quiet week for grain merchandisers. The cash corn basis was lower, but in many cases the soybean basis ended sharply lower, especially at the Illinois River terminals. Although there are still limited cases where merchandisers were pushing hard to encourage producers to sell those last bushels of old crop soybeans. At the Central Illinois Soybean Processors, cash soybean bids dropped .82 to 1.07 for the week to range from 10.52-10.87, with basis 20 to 45 cents lower ranging from +95X to +130X. Cash corn bids to producers at the Central Illinois Corn Processors were down 5 to 6 cents to 3.28-3.38, with basis steady to 1 cent higher at +10U to +20U. At the Illinois River terminals south of Peoria, cash corn bids dropped 10 cents to 3.26-3.29, with basis down 4 cents at +8U to +10 1/2 U. Cash soybean bids fell 1.42-1.43 to range from 10.02-10.30, with basis falling 80 to 81 cents at +45X to +73X. New crop corn bids fell 6 to 8 cents to 3.03-3.06, with basis steady to up 2 cents at -21Z to -18Z. New crop soybean bids for October delivery were down 57 cents at 9.53-9.57, with basis 17 to 18 cents higher at -4Z to option X. At the Illinois River terminals north of Peoria, cash corn bids declined 8 to 9 cents to 3.27-3.29, with basis 2 to 4 cents lower at +8 1/2 U to +11U. Cash soybean bids dropped 1.34-1.35 to range from 10.21-10.23, with basis down 72 to 73 cents at +64X to +66X. New crop corn bids fell 3 to 8 cents to 3.01-3.06, with basis steady to 4 cents higher to range from -22 1/2 Z to -18 Z. New crop soybean bids were down 54 to 58 cents at 9.45-9.52, with basis 4 to 8 cents higher at -12X to -5X. In northern and western Illinois, cash corn bids to producers at country elevators lost 5 to 10 cents ranging from 3.09-3.17, central Illinois bids were down 6 to 8 cents at 3.07-3.17, and southern Illinois locations dropped 12 cents at 3.09-3.23. Cash soybean bids fell 1.00-1.08 to 10.29-10.54 in northern and western Illinois, with central Illinois locations down 1.04 ranging from 10.22-10.37, and southern Illinois bids were 1.29-1.61 lower at 9.85-9.98.
